Vertex Symposium: Approaching the Horizon: The Potential to Transform Type 1 Diabetes Care with Islet Cell Therapies

Session description:

This symposium brings together an international expert panel chaired by Jay Skyler to explore fresh perspectives and examine innovative approaches with the potential to redefine the future of type 1 diabetes care. The session will start with an overview of the T1D treatment journey, recent technological advancements and remaining unmet needs in patients living with T1D, presented by Pratik Choudhary. Then, Eelco de Koning will offer an in-depth look at the islet cell transplantation (ICT) patient journey, including the benefits, challenges, real-world applications and the value of ICT in T1D. Lastly, Trevor Reichmann will discuss the current challenges associated with cadaveric ICT and how stem cell-derived therapies represent a potential future treatment that could address the root cause of T1D. The symposium will end with an all-faculty Q&A session.
